What Is The Future Of Social Media?

Are you pondering the what the future of social media holds?

On Friday, September 27, 2013 a very knowledgable and diverse group of small business owners and social media consultants discussed what is working in social media and what they think the future holds.

This mixed group covered a vast array of business cultures and had amazing tips to share summarizing some best practices for social media.

2. +Luis Galarza Leominster, Massachusetts

TAKE AWAY TIP: Define your perfect client and determine where they hangout then be specific in your posts. Create a plan with a schedule and know where you are going to post and why. 90% of your posting should be relationship building not selling!

4. +Katie Katz Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

TAKE AWAY TIP: Content is key and giving is so important in building relationships. Great concepts to think about:

APE  Assess Plan Education

FUR  Frequent Unique Relevant

Think from a transactional level, don't shout out what your selling.

6. +Shelley Roth Houston, Texas

TAKE AWAY TIP: Give to Grow. Work from a principle of abundance not scarcity. Give, give, give.

7. +Alex McClure From Phoenix, Arizona

Olympus Visionary Trail Blazer and COMMERCIAL Photographer

TAKE AWAY TIP:

Understand each social media venue and adapt what you say and how you share to the specific site you are posting on. Don't use the same language on twitter as facebook or google+.

8. +Carra Riley Williams, Arizona "Gateway to the Grand Canyon"

Small business consultant and developer of the NEW World wide photographer directory +Photo Tour Global Directory™ where the consumer can connect and research their own Global Personal Photographer™.

PTGD is a website with names and contact information of creative photographers worldwide who are willing to create custom photography experiences for global travelers AND small businesses who need help with their digital imagery.

TAKE AWAY TIP: Your about or profile pages are the key to success for anyone determining if they want to circle, like or follow you. All venues should have a profile completely filled out with links back to every social media venue you participate in. Introduce people to each other on your stream. You know who is there for business so open the door to a new connection when they come to visit you. SHARING content is the highest compliment you can give anyone so share valuable content on your streams to your followers.

Social media evolves faster and faster each day. What works one morning has completely changed the next day and learning how to adapt to the fast pace and changes will help with the stress level when this fact is understood. The bar of expections of being perfect in this fast pace is an unrealistic expectation and will cause frustration if you the dots are not connected correctly.

If you are confused by Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Linkedin, foursquare and others take the time to take a workshop to understand the cliff notes of the venue and determine if the platform is a place that your perfect client participates in.  Be careful not to post in a area that you are not going to follow and respond to potential prospects that might be talking to you.  Not being there is better than being there and not responding.  Not answering a social tag is a sure fire way to get kicked to the curb with no overs from a digital citizen.

The future of social media is solid.  The big companies are driving the public to Twitter and facebook for voting on Reality shows, discounts and even the news. Digital imagery is the latest hook and is here to stay. Work on your photography skills or find a photographer to work with.   Watch for snapchat and think about how you are going to get your message out with an 8 second window!  That is te future of social media!

Thanks for the summary.  It sounds as though the keys are to acknowledge that "social" media is just that - about the social aspects of relationships - and that content is king.   Thanks!

Hi Cara, I have found that Social Media is not something you learn.  It is something that you continue to learn as it progresses forward, and we have to find a way to keep up.

Very social-able for your to share thus demonstrating the point of responsbile social interaction. As far anything else goes...The dust will settle soon and the Tortoise will win the race while the hare and the hype all learn to calm down and go distance

Carra, these are all great tips.  I love the idea of a timer to remind me that there are other business tasks to complete in addition to social media!

Video show and tell is the most effective, quickest most memorable used of eyes and ears...and all know that two senses are way way better than read read read when on a mobile device that is not built for it.

Excellent post here and it's great to hear all of the different points of view.  This is in fact an always changing medium and one that you MUST have some sort of plan for or you will be lost.

Ralph ~  The take away tips are really crucial to social media survival and it was great that each one had something different to share.  Thank you for your kind comment!

Bob Ratliff ~  Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment.  I would like you to meet Shelley Roth.. she is 162 miles from you in Houston according to google  2.5 hour drive... she is amazing in social media and might be someone you might like to connect with!

Richard Irossi ~  Content is KING... answering questions that a buyer or seller will be asking and then searching online... perfect connection giving valuable help!

Gita ~  you are most welcome... thank you for your comment.

Margaret Woda ~  Thank you for the invitation to the Real Estate Questions and Answers Group.  I was not aware of the group and appreicate the heads up.  Social Media is constantly evolving... like changes daily so it is a challange to keep up!

Posted by Carra Riley (Brokers Guild Cherry Creek Ltd) about 4 years ago

Kat Palmlotte ~  You certainly have it processed correctly!  Thanks for your thoughtful comment!

Amanda and Jared ~  Totally connected the dots!  Great assessment and summary!  Thank you!

Silvia ~  Great to see you.  You are most welcome... Google+ is a place you all need to be.  The station is open.. there is a huge group of AR people hanging out.. the key is to meet new business people from your area and start helping them.. search your specific area in Florida then circle all the people that have the same area come up in your search, then ask them to a a hangout and find out how you can help one another.  Networking with your community has never been easier.

Michael Setunsky~  Every day it is a challange... once you determine where your perfect client is... then just go there... and you do not have to participate in all the venues... Create a plan then work the plan that works for you!

Larry Johnston ~  You are so right about that.. changes daily... so you need to get rid of that stress.. follow people who will keep you in the loop.. get a balance with what you do and just go foward with your specific marketing plan.

Richie Alan Naggar ~  I think the slow down is in one's own consciousness.... peaceful learning wiht out the stress.. because the fast pace continues.. news is that way... go, go, go.. it is our own processing that gets us to the finish link in a balanced way.

Posted by Carra Riley (Brokers Guild Cherry Creek Ltd) about 4 years ago

Jimmy Faulkner~  Great idea... we all learn at different levels and video is a great way to let it sink in... I remember in 2009 when I fist started editing videos I was taking... I googled how to edit on yotuube and watched a 12 year old tell me how to edit in movie maker... I had to keep playing it over and over to get it right... I still do that.  Thank you for your thoughtful comment and if I can help in any other way, please let me know!

Gene Mundt ~  I am delighted to hear you have your team together..... We can calmly put it together.. we need to create a script of what is the most important for each team member to share as to their part in the real estate transaction..... no more than 5 minutes each.... If we had a buyer at the end that could ask questions.. that would be icing on the cake... this is going to work and I am so excite to be doing it with you.. talk about showing the way!  Whoo hoo!  Thank you on the congrats.. I feel honored and appreciate the feature... So glad it is helping others!

Sharon Parisi~  Did you hear Valentina talking about it?  She is the designer and it is at the end.. she is Italian so she has this wonderful accent.  She physically puts her kitchen timer in her bag... I told her to get a smart phone and she wouldn't have to take the timer and she said she liked the impact of the timer!  Thanks for your comments.

Andrew Mooers ~  That is the direction of social media and Snapchat with an 8 second life is where the eyes are going.. thanks fo ryou comment!  I agree.. lots of reading.... digital image stories are best!

Matt Kombrink ~ Make a plan and work the plan.. has to be that way!
