Cosmic Cow Pie: Connecting the Dots

What is Google Hotpot?

Google Places HotpotGoogle really understands how important thinking locally is to its users.  That's why it released Google Hotpot.  But, what is Google Hotpot?  With Google Hotpot, you are able to rate places you visit, give a review, share your ratings and reviews with your friends and get personalized search recommendations based on places you have rated and reviewed in the future.

In your day-to-day lives as real estate professionals, you are out and about in your local market quite a bit.  In fact, you probably see and know as much about your local community as your mail carriers or law enforcement officials.  Since millions of people search out local businesses every day, wouldn't it be smart to show how much you know about the area they are searching for by rating and reviewing local businesses you have been to?  This only instills more confidence in your local expertise when it comes time to decide who those potential clients want to hire to sell their home or when they want someone to help they purchase a new home.

Google HotpotHotpot is really simple to use as well.  You can begin rating and reviewing local businesses through Google Maps, your Android phone, iPhone (yes, there's an app for that) or Google Hotpot.  The more places you review, the more personalized your searches can become.  Google plugs your ratings in to their algorithm so that, for example, when you want to search for a pizza place in an area you haven't eaten in before, it will recommend pizza places similar to other pizza places you have reviewed through Hotpot.  And, if you share your recommendations with your friends, your search will show you places that your friends have reviewed as well in your search results.

Make sure you have claimed your free business listing on Google Places.  Then, have your clients rate and review your services for future clients to see.  If you are in the Portland, Oregon area, you can even request to receive a free business kit from Google Hotpot.  Included in the business kit are marketing materials and customized cards and stickers to help remind clients to use Hotpot to rate and recommend your business.

If you want to increase your visibility on the internet, why not use the built-in Google juice of Hotpot?  If you're still wondering what Google Hotpot is, check out their video below:

Hi Laura - I'm able to stay up-to-date via classes, recommendations, etc.  A lot of times, my clients will ask me to check something out for them that they've heard of.  Thanks for stopping by.
