Top 10 Reasons To Go A Convention Or Event For Your Business

Top 10 Reasons To Go A Convention Or Event For Your Business

1.  You get out of  "Dodge"

You get Away from your computer and the daily chores.  It is a break from the norm AND has benefits.

2.  You CAN learn things IF you listen.

Most events have the latest updates to an industry.  Speakers from across the country are there to share the latest changes and prepare you for what may be coming.

3.  Networking Opportunities

Most individuals going to a convention or event are there to network and expand their sphere of               influence so are very open to talking with you and accepting information you would like to share.

4.  Learn about the latest in technology.

Every industry has been touched in one way or another with advances in technology.  At the event             learn about the new elements and discuss with people how they are implementing the changes in             their business.

5.  Learn about your same business and how it is going in other parts of the country or State.

There are formal and informal opportunities to discuss business and what people are doing to make it work in their area.

6. Blog Content Ideas                                                                                                                                                        If you have a blog going, your mind is changing on how it processes information. When you hear or see something that is interesting, you immediately think about how you could take that information and turn it into an interesting post.

Below is the video blog of the recent Arizona Association of Realtors Midwinter Conference.

7.  Twitter update prospecting with "Digital Citizens"

If you are involved in social media your mind thinks about updating your status in 140 characters. Today at most events there will be individuals there tweeting about what they are hearing.  The event will have a hastag # sequence assigned so Tweeps can follow the conversation at the event and meet people who use Twitter. The AAR Midwinter Conference was #aarwc

Carra--I have always tried to learn or capture one tidbit from every function or event I attend.  No matter how boring or  . . . there will be something to be gained.  Good post.

Constantine ~  Hope you can get to one of the ActiveRain Camps!  There is one coming to Las Vegas, April 1st.

Mary ~ I got about 9 post ideas.. so have them in draft and should be coming up with some good content.  Come to Vegas and go to the raincamp!

Carra - I really want to get to one of these RainCamps...until we close on our new home and move in etc. the whole "leaving the state and running up the credit card" option is OUT.

Can't wait 'til RainCamp comes to Florida....It IS coming to Florida.....RIGHT, guys??  Like, say, ORLANDO??  PLEASE??

Great tips Carra.  Networking at these things IS so important.  And THANK YOU for explaining hash tags! :)

Carra ~ I love to get out of Dodge!  And also like to learn about technology.

The agenda for Vegas looks really interesting Carra but unfortunately I'm already committed through that period.

I'd like to think it will make it's way to Vancouver soon since we have lots of AR members in the region.

If Rain Camp were not coming to L.A. I would be at Vegas.  Lot of good info in your post.  Thanks for sharing.

Coleen~ There will be another RainCamp when you are ready!  The search feature is the best part of twitter.. when you are at an event you can meet everyone that tweets by doing a search on the hastag characters and then following them... what you do after that is how you prospect and connect.

Dawn ~  I like to get out of Dodge.. about every 2 weeks works for me!

John ~ There are a lot of Rainers up in your part of the world.. I am sure they will be setting something up!

Jane ~ I will be excited to read your SNL reports of a raincamp! Now that will be a fun read!

Carra, over the years I have been to many many conventions and trade shows. Some of them I actually remember and some of them I'm still trying to forget. Networking is the primary reason to attend, getting to see people that we sometimes only talk to on the phone or blog with like here on AR.

Once a meet is made in person, it's like a bond takes place that further enhances either the business or the friendship.

Rain Camp is such a great experience. I thought I was pretty savvy in social media, but even for those guru's out there, Rain Camp will teach you a thing or two, I promise!

Christopher ~ Excited to learn more!

Brian~ There are many from Canada wanting a camp! Talk to Bob and Brad.

Carra:  Although you covered a large array of topics with the comments you posted from Twitter ... none stuck out in my mind as much as the percentage quoted for NAR users (5%)!  That seems so very low ... but I can only imagine that for loan officers it is even more amazingly low.  And for the midwest region's r.e. professionals?  A small percent of even that number.  I can think of so many positives for being involved with social media ... it amazes me that so many are overlooking it!  Kudos to all those that jump in, learn how to be involved with this valuable tool, and utilize it consistently  ...

Gene,

Incredible how you picked out one of the most important concepts I got at the entire conference on a copy of the tweets!  You are a Digital Citizen!  My next post!  Anyway... yes, there is a lot of opportunity for real estate related businesses to move towards social media and get in the game!  It really is like the old century farming.. takes 6 to 18 months to get results so might as well start!  thanks Gene!

Howdy and evenen to ya Carra

I keep on hopen that AR will come to New Hampshire or Vermont, but they just keep go-en to the States around them. Its like AR thinks of NH and VT as the red headed step. child. I do go to events.

Carra, these are great little interviews with alot of help.  I love going to conventions for the reasons you said, especially learning what is happening in the tech world and what I can do to improve my performance.  Thanks!
