  "Cosmic Shift Happens TM"

Do some construction on your brain

2010 is the year to update your "personal internal hard drive," or your brain!

Over the past few years, the Internet (and the world) have seen some major changes. The emergence of social media is near the top of the list of all changes. Social media has allowed people who otherwise never would have met, to connect, engage, and make business contacts. For others, social media is overwhelming and intimidating.

Start thinking about the positives that social media can create and bring into our lives instead of focusing only on the negatives. Cyberspace is a scary place for some individuals, because there are just so many unknowns. "Social Media Syndrome TM" could be a reality in your world if you are not prepared for circumstances that can some up.  Processing the new form of communication skills just takes practice and understanding of where the other person is coming from and what their agenda is.  If you stay focused on you and your message the outside "differing" influence cannot touch you.

Perception really IS your Reality in cyberspace.

Start connecting with more buyers and sellers by getting more involved in a blog community. Blogging is an essential part of being visible online. Blogging increases your SEO like nothing else. If you're up for it, video blogging is the best.  Youtube is the number 2 search engine on the Internet.

Consider some basics to start connecting in cyberspace if you don't already have these tools up and running:

1. Start a blog, use localism to set yourself apart and create an outside blog to connect with your community.

2. Create a facebook fan page for your business. facebook fan page

3. Learn how  to use LinkedIn

Connecting with facebook, Linkedin and Twitter as your Internet vehicle, you will have the ability to upload or link your outside blog and keep your customers up to date on what you are doing. It's easy to spread your message on social media sites.  Sharing valuable information and making connections are the real goals for participation in social media.

To survive in 2010, embracing Social Media is a MUST. Incorporating your blog into everything you do is a the key to success! It just takes practice. Are you ready to update your hard drive?

Carra,

Great info for social media newbies and mediumbee's.  (Ok, so that's a new word.)

It's really overwhelming to consider at first, but jumping in is one's only option for going forward, bit by bit it starts to make sense.

Can't wait to see the follow-on posts.

All the best, Michelle

Paul,  You GET IT!  Taking action is NOW important "thought of doing a pictorial drive with video excerpts on the local businesses . In St. Margarets Bay !  Thanks!"  Video is what will set you apart!  All the businesses will want to be your friend because it helps them at no cost and you connect with many new people!  Win/win while having fun!

Bogna ~  Video is the biggest help now in marketing.. easy to do with a flip cam and makes an impact!

Dagny ~ so happy you found this post!  What you said is sooo important  "I for one, don't like what half of my "friends" are putting out, so I am getting ready to shut down.. "  So when you get a minute I would love to connect as I think a lot of agents feel EXACTLY like you do.  Thank you so much for sharing!

Ron & Alexandra ~  I will keep the Cosmic fires burning... lol Speaking of fire.. I am going to be a speaker at AFIRE in April on this subject...are you coming?

Vanessa ~  We have all been hearing it for quite some time.. and glad to see you are using it.. Don't you think it just took practice and getting out of your comfort zone?

Carra - I love your graphic - but wish your message wasn't true!

I KNOW I need to learn about video and get better at using Linked In. Facebook drives me nuts with all the "send me a present" messages and invitations to play games, but I know I need to do more with that as well.

Thanks for the push...

Posted by Marte Cliff, Your real estate writer (Marte Cliff Copywriting) over 9 years ago

Marte ~  Glad you liked the graphic... it has a serious message.. it is all about how we process all this information thrown at us... have those construction worker detour the bad images...lol.... the send me a present apps can be blocked and don't worry about them.. It's a simple fix to get rid of what bugs MANY people.. and keeps them from participating in facebook.... they did me too.. Now I just block the applications on facebook and they NEVER bother me.. it is a simple fix.  I will address how to do that in the series.. but you can just go now to applications.. and turn your settings to BLOCK.. done!

Thank you so much for the comments they help me continue to grow and learn.

I would like to invite anyone who has concerns on participating in social media or has been a "victim" of unfortunate misunderstandings on the Internet to contact me and let's discuss how we can help others get through the mind mess! It is definitely a process so defining how to cross certain bridges would sincerely benefit both real estate industry professionals as well as the consumers or business owners. Once you have learned the process, sharing the social media learning curve with businesses and consumers could be a huge win/win for all!

Technology changes every day now so it is going to be a continual hill to climb.  I truly enjoy sharing and learning it all together. I have made some HUGE mistakes and will be sharing those!  It all takes practice so we might as well have fun practicing with one another.

Thanks for you comments!

Hello Carra,

Great post, high quality video, this is all good. A lot of readers will use this video as a guide to make their own. As a potential customer however I would like to see more about the Grand Canyon Coffee & Cafe, how it looks inside, the menu, interview with current customers, and only at the end interview with the owners. Customers want information what’s in it for them, we have to put our ego to the side. Otherwise it is a great post and advice on social media.

Posted by Damian Czajka (Home Buyers Marketing II - Las Vegas) over 9 years ago

Damian ~  Good ideas.. I actually have the menu and I have video of some of the food.  I will take those good suggestions and put them to use!  I will re-do the video..before doing the actual post on their business to be more consumer "user friendly".  I originally took the video to help them out on their website as an intro to them.. you are helping me with the next level and I sincerely appreciate the direction!

Are you going to Raincamp in Vegas on April 1st? It would be great to meet up at the event so let me know.

Carra,

I think some people ignore social media just like some ignored the Internet and building a website. Business did pass them buy. It is hard however to find a balance for it all but shift is happening and it is better to at least start with small steps than to let it pass you by.

I appreciate your post and I just listened to your book again yesterday while I was on a long drive. Thanks for your insights.

Posted by Brenda and Willie Gonzalez, The G Force of Havasu (RE/MAX by the Lake) over 9 years ago

Brenda ~ Great to hear your insights on social media.. you were one of the leaders of the pack in Lake Havasu City, AZ on the Internet with websites and now you "get it" with social media, loved your most recent local post on Havasu.. perfect timing.. Spring Break!

SM it is a huge elephant and I think you hit the nail on the head about the problem being "balance".  It really is hard unless you have a time limit on what you do.. social media sucks you in because there are so many links that can take you on a LONG journey and you forget about the time.  Thanks Brenda for stopping by.. I think your comment has given me a new post idea.. on time, social media and how to balance!

p.s. great to hear you are going back for a second serving of Cosmic Cow Pie!

Carra,  I'm working on it!  But just having a blog is not enough ... I've been trying to teach myself what makes a good blog post, how search engines look for info, and how to use FB, Twitter and LinkedIn (I'm going to be listening to your CRS webinar on LinkedIn this week).  It's a huge job and commitment but one that is critical to our survival and opportunity to thrive in the RE business - or any business these days.  Thank you for reminding us and helping us with this!

Pam ~ I hope to help show just how easy it is to spotlight the community....the next post will be about "digital citizens"... it will be fun!

Awesome!  I loved how they warmed up once they got going with the interview.  I did an interview with a local pastry shop that I am working on getting up on my blog.  I wished I had been able to video the interview.  The owner was so full of great stories about the company but she was shy about having her picture taken.  I did get some great shots of the baked goods though.

It's so much fun to highlight local businesses.  I also attended an opening of a friend's hypnotherapy studio and took lots of pictures.  That's another article in the works.  I'll have those up soon.
