Should You Delete Your Facebook Profile?

"How do I delete my Facebook profile" is so popular that it is one of the suggested search terms when you type in "how do i" into Google search - real estate virtual assistanceMany people are beginning to delete their Facebook profile, even after Facebook began initiating more privacy settings for their users.  There have been enough people doing a search to find out how to delete their Facebook profile, that it is one of the suggestions that comes up on Google when you type in the words "how do i...".  But, should you delete your Facebook profile?

Remember years ago when you were told you had to have a website in order to take your real estate business to the next levelMany Realtors® scrambled to make their online presence known.  They contacted a real estate website provider, paid their money, made their site live and then...did nothing.  "Why isn't my site rocketing to the top of the search engines?"  "Why aren't people beating down my door for me to represent them?"  "Why won't my site get me more business?"  "Why...why...WHY?"

Skip ahead a couple of years and blogs have become the "next, greatest" way to increase your business.  So, Realtors® have again scrambled to set up a blog, add their photo, contact info and a couple of words and sit back and wait.  "Why isn't my blog rocketing to the top of the search engines?"  "Why aren't people beating down my door for me to represent them?"  "Why won't my blog get me more business?"  "Why...why...WHY?"

Second Self Virtual Assistance's Facebook fan page - real estate virtual assistanceNow, with so many people turning to social media as a means of networking, Realtors® again find themselves riding out the social media wave by setting up profiles on Facebook, Twitterand LinkedIn, among others.  Realtors® set up their accounts, add some keywords and simply wait for something to happen.  "Why aren't I getting more friends on Facebook?"  "Why don't more people follow me on Twitter?"  "Why isn't social media getting me more business?"  "Why...why...WHY?"

After a couple of months of having a website, blog or social media account and not finding any luck with it, a Realtor's first thought seems to be "I should delete this and try something else.  It's obviously not working."  That would be a mistake.  If you keep these three words in mind, you'll go far: interaction, consistency and perseverance.

Interaction- Mohammed didn't wait for the mountain to come to him.  He went to the mountain.  People will only know you're there if you let them know you're there.  It IS called "SOCIAL" media, right?  You must be social.  Just because someone isn't physically in front of you doesn't mean you don't interact with them.  Like any other relationship, you must develop it with interaction.

http://www.thinksecondself.comConsistency - Put together a plan of action and follow it.  If you're going to blog, decide how many times a week and what days to do it on.  This will set people up to anticipate when you will have new information.  Take a few minutes every day to post something interesting to you or information you may find useful to share with others on your social media.  Whatever you do, be consistent about it.  Consistency will pay off.

Perseverance - Don't give up because you're not seeing instant gratification.  Continue working your model.  Your business wasn't built overnight.  Neither will your online presence.

So, should you delete your Facebook profile?  If you don't plan on doing anything with your Facebook profile, I say go ahead and delete it.  However, if you wish to build a successful online presence and bring people to your doorstep, both figuratively and physically, I would suggest you develop a plan that includes interaction, consistency and perseverance and you will blossom, as will your business.  And, if you need someone to help guide you in these endeavors, just contact your friendly Real Estate Virtual Assistant.  That's what we're here for.
